Our unique heritage beach villa has two rooms. Each of the rooms are ensuite.
At “Veena – by the Beach”, you are staying in a two hundred year old nalukettu illam (നാലുകെട്ട് ഇല്ലം) built under the direction and supervision of His Royal Highness Swati Thirunal Maharajah of Travancore. The exquisite wooden interiors in this house have intricate carvings on them made by local artisans of early 19th century. This boutique beach villa on Marari Beach was brought to its present-day location by Keith and Sonia Baker in 2008. It was almost exclusively used by them as a holiday home till very recently.

This room has a private sit out that overlooks the tropical garden plants and sea on one side. With the same amenities and features as that of the first bed room, the second bed room has another room separated by a door provided with a single cot, ideal for families with two adults and two children. What is better than a living space villa that is entirely your own? You may book the whole villa that gives you absolute privacy and nothing less. The villa can accommodate a maximum of six adults.

The best way to explore Marari village is by cycle. We have MTBs (mountain trek) for you, get on the saddle and go cycling. It’s a bliss to ride through the narrow village roads, some on tarred road and some on hard sand. You will come across churches, temples, market, schools, small tea shops, local country bars where they serve coconut toddy. Do not worry; we will give you a route map…
If you want to master the recipe of a local cuisine, here is your chance. Your chef will conduct a cooking class on a favourite local cuisine and together you will cook and eat
No one should miss a ride in auto rickshaw, especially a ride through the village. Your trained diver will take you around Marari visiting churches, temples , markets and a coir factory.
For those who have never stood so close to an Elephant, take a tuk tuk ride to our nearest temple and witness the temple elephant. You will get a chance to feed it.
An early morning visit to a fishermen’s village where you witness the live action of boatmen bringing in their fresh catch of fishes for auction where hundreds of people are gathered.You will later visit a family where you will have breakfast with them and exchange experiences with brief introduction to some of the heritage relics available in the house and later visit the village market.
Your trip in Kerala is incomplete without cruising the backwaters of Alleppey on board a House boat. The Kerala backwaters is a system of canals stretching 900 km across Kerala incorporating rivers, lakes & lagoons , paddy fields and colourful houses and a way of life that seems romantically unchanged for centuries. Exploring backwaters in a houseboat is the best way to experience the Kerala’s beauty through the palm-fringed backwaters – a chain of lakes, canals and lagoons. .The islands and paddy farms on the either side are separated by lagoons, brooks and small gushing streams. The Lunch tradition Kerala lunch will be served on plantain leaves.
Alleppey , from time immemorial served as the main port for the backwater region under the British rule. It’s from here that spices, tea, coffee, cashews and coir were shipped out via the fan of canals. Accompanied by a host who is passionate about Alleppey’s local heritage will take you through the Gujarati quarter, the canal banks and the old wholesale market; areas rarely seen by visitors. Later you will visit a Syrian Christian family.You will experience the Keralan hospitality with a sumptuous Kerala lunch with them.
